Overhead storage failure isn't just inconvenient — it falls on whatever is beneath it. Most ceiling rack listings show a total weight rating without explaining what anchor type and joist construction that rating assumes.

A rack rated at 600 lbs assumes lag screws into solid wood joists on standard 16-inch spacing. In a garage with engineered trusses, 24-inch spacing, or ceiling drywall with no accessible joists, that same rack may not be safely installable without engineering the anchor system separately.
