Macrame supply listings are confusing because sellers use inconsistent terminology. "Macrame cord" covers everything from 1.5mm jute to 10mm braided rope — products that behave entirely differently under the same knotting techniques.

Buying 3-ply twisted cord when a project calls for single-strand creates a finished piece that doesn't brush out or drape correctly. Buying 5mm cord for a wall hanging meant for 3mm produces bulky knots that crowd the pattern. The cord decision matters, and most listings don't explain it.
