The answer depends on which plugins you want to pair with it, what the CRT phosphor looks like, and whether calibration is actually necessary for your use case. This page explains those decisions without requiring you to already know the answer.

Tektronix 545B oscilloscope
The 545B is a 30 MHz bandwidth vacuum-tube scope (1959ā1964 era) ā the last major Tek tube design before solid-state transition. Check for CRT phosphor burn and verify the vertical and horizontal plugins are included; the 545B uses Type plug-in units that are not compatible with later 5- or 7-series systems.
Tektronix 7000 series scope
The 7000 mainframe system (7603, 7613, 7704A, and others) accepts a wide range of interchangeable 7-series plugins covering amplifiers, time bases, and spectrum analyzers. A mainframe without plugins is worth little; confirm plugin inventory before bidding. Bandwidth varies dramatically by mainframe and plugin combination.
HP 8640B signal generator
The HP 8640B covers 500 kHz to 512 MHz with AM and FM modulation ā a workhorse RF signal source still used in working RF labs. The mechanical precision of the tuning mechanism is a known wear point; ask whether the output level tracking has been verified. Frequency accuracy typically needs a cal check after 40+ years.
Fluke 8060A multimeter
The 8060A (early 1980s) was Fluke's flagship portable true-RMS meter ā a genuine engineering tool of the era. The LCD display can develop dead segments with age; test all functions before bidding. Calibration certificates are rarely available for units this old, but the design is stable and self-calibration drift is typically low on stored units.
Vintage Hewlett-Packard test gear
HP's 1970sā1980s bench instruments ā counters, LCR bridges, power supplies, spectrum analyzers ā were built to professional lab standards and remain serviceable with available schematics. The HP service manuals are often still downloadable from the Keysight archive. Fan-cooled units need fan inspection; electrolytic caps in PSU sections are the most common failure point.
