Pedal content online is dominated by YouTubers playing through sponsored gear and forum debates where nobody discloses their stake. Almost none of it explains what the circuits actually do differently.
A Klon Centaur original and a KTR and a Tumnus and a Archer are all "Klon clones," but they are not the same circuit. The component choices that matter are documentable. This page explains them plainly.

Klon Centaur original
Bill Finnegan's original transparency overdrive, approximately 8,000 units produced 1994–2000. Uses NOS germanium diodes and a charge pump doubling the internal voltage. Originals are highly collected; verify serial numbers and case engraving against known production records.
Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9
The production Tube Screamer platform. Original TS808 (1979–1981) vs TS9 differs in the output buffer and clipping stage op-amp chip. Early JRC4558D chips are sought after; the TS9 reissue uses correct components. Early Japan-made units trade at a modest premium.
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff
The Big Muff has been in continuous production since 1969 with substantially different circuits across generations: V1 triangle (1969), V2 rams head (1973), V4 civil war (1990s Russian), V9 violet (NYC). Each variant sounds different and trades in a separate market segment.
Strymon Timeline delay
12 delay machine types, 200 presets, MIDI, stereo I/O. The Timeline occupies the high end of the delay market alongside the Eventide H9. Used units hold value well. Verify firmware version — later versions added features and addressed early DSP quirks.
Eventide H9 multi-effects
The H9 runs algorithms from the H3000/H8000 lineage in a single-knob floor format. Core vs Max versions differ in number of pre-loaded algorithms. Algorithms purchased on one H9 are locked to that unit's serial — verify included algorithm count when buying used.
