Vintage board game prices on eBay span a 10× range for the same title depending on edition, completeness, and condition — and listings rarely specify which they are. Knowing the first edition markers for Cosmic Encounter, or which Avalon Hill printings have the revised scenarios, separates an informed bid from a guess.
Condition grading standards that apply to cards and coins don't translate directly to board games. A game rated "complete" by a seller might be missing one critical rule card or scenario sheet. This page explains what to actually verify.

3M Bookshelf Game edition (1964 original) is the most collected. Tile shapes and hotel designs changed across editions. Confirm tile count and hotel set completeness.
Twilight Imperium first edition
Fantasy Flight Games 1997 first edition with original faction sheets. Substantially different from later editions. Scarce and fragile — component condition is the limiting factor.
