Beeswax candles: the premium tier with the narrowest competition.

Pure beeswax, naturally fragrant with honey notes, hand-poured pillars and tapers. The artisan tier where bars price at $18-65 per candle and the competitive field is mostly inexperienced.

Pure beeswax pillars command 3-5x the price of soy containers — material cost is higher but margin per unit is much higher too.

The economic reality of beeswax

Raw beeswax costs $9-14 per pound — 3x soy wax. A 6-inch pillar uses 12-16 ounces of wax (vs 5-7oz for an 8oz soy jar). Material cost per candle: $7-12 vs $1.20 for a soy jar.

But the retail price compensates. Beeswax 6-inch pillars retail for $28-65 (vs $18-32 for an 8oz soy jar). Margin per candle is 2-3x higher. The competitive field is much narrower because the material cost scares off hobbyists.
